Welcome to my website!
Shelby Finds is my passion project - a small business that came to fruition, like many others, during the Covid pandemic in 2020.
After travelling the world as an international flight attendant for 14 years, I returned to settle along the beautiful coast of Kwa-Zulu Natal, along with my husband Lance, and our little boy Nathan at the end of 2019. With the whole world going into lockdown not long after, and not many options for finding a new career, I finally had the time to really explore what I wanted to do for my next chapter in life.
I have always been fascinated by interesting and unique textiles, trinkets and art on my travels - and feel a particular affinity towards the South and East Asian countries. Shelby Finds is me, bringing my love of all things quirky, colourful and even kitsch, to South Africa.
Fast forward 4 years and many rugs later, Shelby Finds is still a small business and a one-man band - however I have managed to rope in a few excellent individuals (some of them family members!) who assist me with packaging, design, photography and general business advice and encouragement!
The offerings at Shelby Finds are ethically sourced and produced by artisans in India. Our most recent rug designs, the Taj, Nile Crocodile, Mystic and Flamin' Racer are all designed right here in Durban, by local Durban designers.
I like to keep things fresh by having only a small amount of each design made - usually, once an item is sold out, it is removed from the website and will not be restocked.
However, we do restock our most popular items if the demand is high - look for the ‘Coming Soon’ tag on the product listings.
